QATAR GOODWOOD FESTIVAL

Real Studios has designed a sophisticated pavilion to mark the launch of Goodwood's first Festival in partnership with Qatar. An elegant, sculptural structure, it stands in the trees overlooking the quintessential English 'horse walk', welcoming visitors into a vibrant and immersive space which evokes the sights, sounds and culture of Qatar. Comprising two elliptical walls, 15m wide by 4.5m high, the design is inspired by the rippling of sand dunes, the flow of horses and jockeys' silks in motion, and the fluttering of a Qatari dhow's sails in the wind. White on the outside, the two walls are slightly offset to reveal an immersive interior, inviting the visitor into a world of Qatari culture, evoked through music, poetry, artefacts, a specially commissioned film (from On101), and the scent of 35,000 deep red, clove carnations, festooned along the walls. As the flowers are removed for visitors buttonholes, they reveal the word 'welcome' in Qatari script.
