Love the Words - Dylan Thomas Centre
Client: The City & County of Swansea
Our exhibition for the Dylan Thomas Centre in Swansea weaves the contradictions and complexities of Thomas' life and work into a fascinating visual story. We used clever narrative and architectural devices to make the most of the compact gallery, which opened 100 years to the day from when the Welsh poet was born – October 27th, 1914. A vivid three-dimensional timeline tableau around the walls, takes the visitor from Thomas’ childhood home and birthplace in Swansea to the New York bar where he spent his last night.
Two sculptural central structures deal with his work. One evokes the boathouse studio he used in Laugharne, its contents exploring the themes that prevailed in his writing, his language development and his cinematic and literary inspirations. The other, a wood-panelled performance space, reveals his diverse career as a writer, collaborator and performer. The exhibition's opening marked the climax of the Dylan Thomas Centenary celebrations.
