Royal Marines Experience Museum
Client: National Museum of the Royal Navy
It’s full steam ahead for the Royal Marines Experience Museum at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard: following on from our successful HLF stage 1 bid, we have collaborated with AV/VR specialists Sarner to secure Stage 2 funding to deliver a dramatic new gallery in the £13.9million renovation of Boathouse 6 for the National Museum of the Royal Navy.
Occupying the vast ground floor of the Grade-II listed Boathouse, our exhibition design delivers a holistic, integrated and experiential immersion in the excitement and rigour of Royal Marine Commando training and operations throughout its 350 year history. From historic battles to the cutting-edge technology and strategies required for dealing with modern warfare or global emergencies, we have deployed the core narratives strategically across the full spectrum of storytelling media for maximum impact.
Hands-on interactives, AV, VR and filmic elements form an encircling narrative allowing visitors a taste of the skills needed to meet typical challenges such as vertical assaults, emergency landings or the lightning reflexes required for close quarter battle.
Central to the space is our History of the Corps gallery showcasing the Royal Marines Corps’ extraordinary collection, with objects and personal stories brought to life thanks to a clever interplay of 3-D display, film and interactives The whole experience is designed to emphasise the Royal Marines’ legacy of agility and adaptability across the ages, over land, sea and air.
We are excited that this state-of-the-art exhibition combining Real Studios’ award-winning, sophisticated storytelling and interpretative master planning with Sarner’s solid track record in immersive AV and VR development will be open to visitors later this year.
