Work Life: Life's Work

Client: Harley Foundation

Celebrating their commitment to nurturing crafts and craftsmanship, our design for the Harley Foundations latest temporary exhibition 'Work Life: Life’s Work' showcased specially commissioned work produced in their artist studios, to mark 40 years since they were set up by Ivy, Duchess of Portland, to ‘encourage creativity in us all’.

From an intricately embroidered death shroud, an AV installation, a hand-crafted guitar to a gigantic porcelain vessel, existing set-work was repurposed for the show. A central spine with an array of angle-poise lamps spotlights the diverse works displayed on this 8m long intervention.

As a part of the project, portraits were commissioned of each craftsperson and they were each invited to ‘make their mark’ by signing the gallery wall. A full programme of events runs alongside the exhibition with many of the artists hosting workshops and talks to engage and inspire visitors.
