Eureka! Science + Technology
Client: Eureka!
Our masterplanning skills have been instrumental in creating an exciting new sibling for Eureka! The National Children’s Museum, which opened in Halifax in 1992. With a radically different approach, the new £11.75m Eureka! Science + Discovery centre opened in autumn 2022 on the Wirral waterfront, offering a 21st century benchmark for science and discovery-based learning for kids aged 0 to 14 years.
We have developed our interpretation alongside months of co-creation workshops between the client and stakeholder groups, exploring the brief to enrich understanding of science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) subjects. The interpretation focuses on three key narratives around body, home and nature.
These themes are conveyed via a series of immersive environments designed to articulate both essential information and enriching narratives, to embed new knowledge via a multi-sensory, multi-faceted learning experience. Each area has its own distinctive atmosphere and style, deploying a playful mix of interactive, experiential, tactile and sculptural exhibits. In addition, there is a make / create workshop, a science theatre and a separate under 5s area.
