Shell Wildlife Photographer of the year

Client: Natural History Museum, London

The challenge for this prestigious annual competition is to make the exhibition of its shortlisted photographs look different every time, without overshadowing the content. Our scheme achieved a fine balance between texture and simplicity. We introduced curtains of fine white cord as a backdrop around the perimeter of the exhibition space, with photographs arrayed on light boxes, along its length. In the centre, the curtains created a series of screens, providing a 'conceal and reveal' experience for the viewer, and a sense of discovery as they progress through the exhibition.

Our role:

  • Exhibition design

  • Lighting design with DHA Designs

  • Graphic design with Surface 3

  • Overseeing installation
